So, this video is going to be out of necessity, and if you would have asked me 20 years ago if I would have an employee manual 📖I would have laughed in your face 😂. What I have learned is that you can't assume that people know how to communicate or even how to act for that matter. (Which btw, your body language and how you act is definitely a form of communication)
I want to share a few jaw dropping 😱stories, you'll probably have to pick your mouth up off the floor.
I had to create my own company policies but we like to call it our GSD language.
I'll never forget years ago when I met Carol and she was going through our team member guidelines asking LOTS of questions (because that's what green's 🟢do in True Colors), I remember the look on her face when I told her some of the stories about why I had to create a freaking manual in the first place.
I'll give you a few bullet points, a high level overview.
*Interns showing up to a 9am meeting reeking of tequila 🍹.
*Intern wearing a tight ass black sleeveless dress to setup for an event and every time she bent over you could see everything, and I mean… everything… (I literally had to say to her “we aren't working a pole tonight, go home and change. We are here to set up not look cute or be laid”)
*An intern leaving an event at 1am and going to the most popular bar in town with her company shirt on, which by the way had my name and logo all over the shirt. And when I got pictures of her hanging upside down from the bar and a guy dumping tequila down her throat (which led to another team member of mine taking her home with her and her peeing in her bed 🤮#workgoals)
*An intern just pulling out her jul and vaping 💨in front of clients and other team members
Now thank goodness I was a very patient person and I took the fault for their actions because I never clearly communicated my expectations of them to represent the brand.
Although my parents would have killed me if I did any of that shit above ⬆️, I guess they had different types of parents 🤷🏼♀️. And what I realized as a business owner is sometimes I have to be the parent, and that's what you sign up for when you open a business, just a friendly heads up if you are in the beginning of this roller coaster journey called entrepreneurship ❤️.
And if you don't have a manual for your interns or team members, let me know!
