August 7 was International Friendship Day. As we put an end to the summer, it's important to take time for yourself and spend time with your friends. As a busy entrepreneur, I don't have time to waste, so I am very selective with the people I choose to be around! Here are my best tips for growing yourself and your business through friendships.
1. Consult Your Advisory Board
I consider my “friends” to be my business advisory board. They will tell me the truth and what I need to hear–not what I want to hear. Remember, it is okay to ask for help and get feedback.
2. Make the Time
Make an effort to make time for these people in your life. Making excuses that you don't have time should have you thinking about how to use technology and apps to help gain time back.
3. Ditch the Haters
If you have friends in your life that bring you or your business down, you need to move on. It sounds harsh, but this “cleanse” is so important, because who you choose to spend time with can dictate your mood and the way you think.
4. Don't Do It Alone
The worst thing you can do as a busy business owner is to stay behind closed doors and not do anything for yourself. Attend a fitness class with a friend or join a networking organization. Take a mental and physical break from your work and connect with others. Success doesn't happen in isolation!
5. Find Furry Friends
If you don't have any close friends–and trust me, I know it's hard to find those true friendships–there are always pets. One of my favorite things each day is coming home to my dogs. They are always happy to see me. They cuddle, they listen if I am having a bad day, and they don't talk back! Yes, it can be a hassle taking them outside 4 times a day, but owning a pet is one of the most therapeutic things you can do to relieve anxiety and stress.
