This is What Happens When You Choose to Feel Better

Hi GSD Leaders! If you’ve ever looked at someone’s wellness routine and thought, “I could never do that,” this is the blog you didn’t know you needed. Because this story? It starts from rock bottom. No filters. No BS. Just one decision to try something different.

We recently went Instagram live with our powerhouse friend Tami, and her journey is proof that you don’t have to be an athlete to build strength and prioritize your health.

Whether you’re overwhelmed, or simply tired of not feeling like yourself, what you’ll find in this post is a refreshing reminder that you can take control of your health, one step at a time.

From Burnout to Barbells: How Tami Reclaimed Her Health

Tami didn’t set out to become a competitive powerlifter. In fact, just a few years ago, she was angry, exhausted, and trying to pick up the pieces after her business was forced to shut down. Sound familiar? Thanks COVID.

She just wanted to move more and feel better, so she walked into a gym. That first step led to something incredible: a love for lifting weights that would eventually earn her a championship title in Colorado for her age group.

And she started from zero.
She was over 50.
Overweight.
Couldn’t bend her knees.
Never played a sport.

Let that sink in.

If you’ve ever told yourself “I’m too old” or “I’ve never been active” Tami is living proof that it’s never too late to start. You’ll never know what you’re capable of… until you try.

Why Feeling Better > Looking Perfect

You might assume that lifting weights was all about muscle gains, but for Tami, it was the opposite. Her transformation started from the inside.

She didn’t just see changes in strength or weight, just yet. She saw her rosacea (the painful, bleeding kind that lasted years) completely disappear. She fixed her thyroid health. She stopped needing multiple prescriptions. And she did it by pushing herself, explore holistic medicine, and figuring out what actually worked for her body.

👉 This is your reminder: different bodies. Different journeys. Different goals.

The real win will be waking up and feeling good in your own skin.

Self-Care Isn’t a Spa Day. It’s a System.

If you’re wondering what her self-care looks like, see below:

🚶  Start the morning with 45-minute walks on a walking pad (YAY!) my kind of day!
🍽️  Intentional eating based on her current goals (competition vs. off-season)

🏋  Strength training + cardio in the gym for 1 hour and 30 minute
s
🧖  Sauna after gym if possible

🎯  Focused, realistic goals. Then setting new ones when she hits them

You Don’t Have to “Look the Part” to Change Your Life

Tami doesn’t fit the picture-perfect fitness aesthetic we’re used to seeing online, and that’s exactly why her story matters. Because the truth is, real health is how you feel on the inside.

Her numbers, her energy, and her mindset speak volumes. Her journey is rooted in longevity, and the courage to prioritize feeling good over chasing perfection. Showing others what’s possible when you stop chasing perfection, and start pursuing wellness for you.

Fat loss wasn’t the first goal, feeling better was. And she nailed it! Now that she’s in her fat-loss phase, we already know she’ll get there. Because when you’re living in alignment with what matters most, you’ve already won.

So… What About You?

Maybe you’re stuck. Maybe you’re in pain. Maybe you’re just done trying things that don’t work. Let this story be your wake-up call.

You don’t need a 10-step routine or a closet full of supplements to start caring for yourself again. You just need to listen to your body. Start small. And stay curious.
