Hi GSD Leader! Here we are together in 2025! But, let's hit rewind ⏮️ and take a trip back to 2020 so you have context to what we are sharing five years later…
Before the pandemic, I was so wrapped up in work that I lost sight of what really mattered, my health. 😔 Long hours, constant stress, and a relentless drive to succeed left me with unwanted weight and a declining sense of well-being. I was the last on my team to experience COVID-19, and when it hit, it hit hard. I faced severe complications from neglecting my body for far too long. I gained over 100 pounds in just nine months while trying to save a business that was ripped from under me in 72 hours. Twenty-three years of hard work, my identity, my world… and I was so sick, I barely had the energy to care anymore. Laying in bed with a temperature of 104°F, I was terrified to even sleep. I made goodbye videos for my family while watching The Greatest Showman on repeat, scared I wouldn’t wake up. 😢
That was my wake-up call. Life or death, literally. ⏰ I knew I had to change, so I dove in headfirst. I don’t do things halfway. With guidance from incredible mentors and clients like keto influencer Dr. Ken Berry, Tony Holt, and Dr. Kevin Billups from Heal 90, I started piecing together the puzzle of transforming my life. Little by little, I discovered the value of extending my life and changing my habits; all while working and working towards building a new business and life. It will be different this time. 🙏
Addicted to work, back then, overcoming COVID I set a SMART goal in place: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound (having ADHD I must have a framework and acronym). For 365 days commit to one simple habit, 10,000 steps a day.🚶♀️ I moved my dining room table to the living room in Nashville, TN, got a treadmill desk, and started tracking my movement with my Apple Watch, scheduled Zoom meetings that allowed for walking breaks, and slowly, one step at a time, the transformation began. It wasn’t just about losing weight, it was about shedding the mental and emotional baggage that had weighed me down for years. (Check out my case study here to see the results for yourself 📈)
Now, I’m shifting my focus. Instead of overloading myself and my team with 100+ events a year, I’m sharing my journey with YOU—because I believe that when you take your health into your own hands, everything changes. I’m excited to introduce you to the simple 8-Step GSD Wellness Code that saved my life and is now inspiring others to do the same. ✨ This is how we Get Shit Done around here, and it all starts with movement.
Our 8-Step SELF CARE framework is designed to help you prioritize wellness in a sustainable way. The GSD Wellness Code guides you in making small, mindful changes that can transform your daily routine, enhance your well-being, and ultimately elevate your personal and professional life. Read on to discover what each element of the code means and learn how tiny changes can lead to big transformations for you!
What Is The GSD Wellness Code?

The GSD Wellness Code is built on the idea that true wellness comes from balancing eight key areas of our lives. Think of it as an acronym for SELF CARE. These questions are designed to help you pause and truly check in with yourself, paving the way for meaningful, lasting change.
S – Social:
Cultivating meaningful connections and fostering a sense of community
✅ Reflect on who you listen to and how you speak to yourself. Ask: Who lifts you up, and who drains your energy? Think about the conversations you have—both with others and within yourself.
E – Emotional:
Mental Wellness – Managing stress, emotions, and mental health
✅ How did you feel today? Did you experience stress, joy, or calm? Consider which emotions stood out and how you responded, and take note of the company you kept.
L – Lifestyle:
Intellectual Growth – Honoring cultural identity and heritage. Professional Development
✅ Are you exploring the world and enjoying the outdoors? Ask yourself if your daily activities and habits are setting you up for the life you truly want.
F – Financial:
Effectively managing finances and alleviating financial stress from the past, present & future
✅ Are you aligning your passion with your work? Reflect on whether you’re able to make money doing what you love.
C – Care:
Physical/Motion: Focusing on movement, nutrition, and quality sleep to support overall physical health and well-being
✅ What is one thing you did today to care for yourself? Whether it was taking a walk, stretching, or simply relaxing—acknowledge the small actions that nourish you.
A – Awareness:
Spiritual: Embrace your power to shift the energy in a room, seeking purpose and connection that feels right
✅ How aware are you of your energy? Consider how you influence the vibe in a room and whether you’re mindful of the energy you bring into every space.
R – Relationships:
Intimacy/Sexual Wellness: Cultivating meaningful connections, deeper intimacy, fostering open communication, and greater self-awareness
✅ How are your close connections doing? Did you have an honest, supportive conversation today? Check in on the quality of your relationships and how they impact your well-being.
E – Environmental:
Designing sustainable, supportive spaces that incorporate natural light & fresh airflow while minimizing exposure to household chemicals & everyday products.
✅ How does your physical space affect your mood? Do you need more natural light, a touch of greenery, a quiet corner, or maybe some soothing music? Reflect on whether clutter or chaos is holding you back and what you can change to create a more uplifting environment.
A Story of Transformation: How One Small Step Led to Big Change
Listen to this inspirational story about a dear friend, Brian Franklin, who was in the audience at my very first keynote on Biohacking—a new way of life. It was the perfect setting to open up and share his personal journey (huge thanks to EMERGE for inviting me to Denver!) I never focus on the crowd size; it’s all about the quality of connection and helping even one person take action, and Brian was that person. He was so close to hitting 10K steps almost 30 days in a row! I can’t even begin to explain how much that filled my heart. You can watch our Instagram Live, click the image below👇 (it's about a hour long, but SO motivating!) 🥳
Your 30-Day Self-Check Challenge
The most helpful things for me to do when going through this was the following:
📝 Daily Journal:
Spend just one minute each day noting how you feel in each of these eight areas. Rate your feelings on a scale of 1 to 10 or jot down a few sentences. Whether it’s a note on your phone or a notepad by your bed, commit to this practice for 30 days.
📊 Data and Patterns:
If you use a wearable device like an Oura Ring, pay attention to your sleep and stress data. I’ve noticed my stress spikes on days with certain meetings or when I’m around people who drain my energy. Use this data to pinpoint what triggers your stress or boosts your mood.
🧘 Reflect on Your Interactions:
Ask yourself, “Who am I spending my time with? Which environments uplift me, and which ones drain me?” Recognize these patterns so you can consciously surround yourself with positive influences.
👀 Review and Adjust:
At the end of 30 days, go back over your notes. What trends do you notice? Are there specific situations that consistently leave you feeling off? Use these insights to make small adjustments—maybe reschedule a meeting, plan time with uplifting friends, or carve out extra moments for calming activities.
